We took the Trans Canada Trail all the way to Coquitlam, so we could stay on gravel for most of the time. By opting for a short portion of Barnet Hwy we avoided additional climb through Mountain Air Trail, but if you don’t mind a bit of extra elevation, I highly recommend going through the forest and skipping the road completely.
Port Moody offers many opportunities for refreshment - there are plenty of breweries, food trucks, and cafes to choose from. Any of them would be nice for a break.
Coquitlam River Trail and trails at Colony Farm provide a very tranquil environment, you won’t even feel like you are in the city. Explore around if you have time!
The Cape Horn section is the hardest part of the route, with an elevation grade of over 15%.
Looping back to East Van through Burnaby Lake gives you another option to grab a beer at the brewery district or get a nice meal. Don’t forget to reward yourself after a long ride!
